Just wanted to share this video I stumbled upon during my daily internet inspiration time. In this video, commercial sports photographer Joel Grimes shows his speedlight mobile setup that give that gritty moody feel to images. Basically, he combines two Canon 580 Speedlights for each of the two rim lights (or kickers) and one Canon 580 in an Octobox to use as the fill light just above the camera and slightly to one side. It’s pretty well explained in the video. The second video shows his basic in 3 light studio setup with a beauty dish or soft bx in the front above the camera and two gridded soft boxes on each side in the back for strong rim lighting. It also gives insight into how he creates his HDR background images and combines them with the image of the subject. Just check out the video to see it for yourself.
